1. Who we are

Aussie Alt Christian (AAC) is published by Jason Masters (the “Author”) as part of the Society, Ethics, Business publication group, a trading name of Masters Le Mesurier (International) Pty Ltd as Trustee for Masters Family Trust. This Privacy Policy describes how the Author handles personal information collected through this website.

2. What we collect

We collect personal information only when you actively provide it:

  • Contact form submissions: name, email address, and the message you send.
  • Comments: name, email address, and the comment text, submitted via Hyvor Talk (third-party comment service — see Section 7).

We do not use page-level visitor tracking. Site analytics are provided by Plausible, which is cookie-free and does not collect personal information or build profiles of visitors.

3. How we use your information

We use personal information for the purpose for which it was collected:

  • To respond to enquiries submitted via the contact form.
  • To moderate comments and contact you if your comment requires clarification.

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information.

4. Storage and security

  • Contact form submissions are stored in HubSpot (HubSpot, Inc.). The primary instance hosting your data is in HubSpot’s Australian data centre. HubSpot also operates data centres in the EU and the US. Because HubSpot is a US-headquartered company, data held in the Australian instance may still be subject to the US CLOUD Act — a 2018 law that allows US authorities to compel American technology companies to produce data they hold, regardless of where in the world that data is stored.
  • Comments are stored by Hyvor Talk (Hyvor Ltd, with infrastructure in Europe). When you submit a comment, Hyvor sends a limited set of data to its spam-detection sub-processor, Akismet (Automattic, Inc., a US-headquartered company): the comment text, your name, a one-way hash of your email address (Akismet cannot see the actual address), and your IP address. Akismet retains this data for 14 days. If a comment is marked as spam, that signal is also used to train Akismet’s global spam-detection model.
  • We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure.

5. Disclosure overseas

Personal information held by the third-party providers above may be stored or accessed outside Australia:

  • Hyvor Talk stores comments on infrastructure in Europe.
  • HubSpot stores your form submissions in its Australian data centre. However, as a US-headquartered company, HubSpot may be compelled under the US CLOUD Act to disclose data to US authorities even when that data sits in the Australian instance.
  • Akismet (Hyvor’s spam-detection sub-processor) processes a hashed version of your email address, along with your name, comment content, and IP address on US infrastructure. Akismet is operated by Automattic, Inc., a US-headquartered company, and is therefore subject to the US CLOUD Act. Data is retained for 14 days.

By submitting personal information through this site you consent to these arrangements.

6. Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal and operational obligations.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au) if you believe we have mishandled your personal information.

To exercise these rights, contact us via the Contact page.

7. Third-party services

This site relies on three third-party services, each of which has its own privacy policy:

  • Plausible Analytics — privacy-respecting site analytics. Hosted on EU infrastructure (Germany) and operated by Plausible Insights OÜ (Estonia), so not subject to the US CLOUD Act. Does not set cookies and does not collect personal information.
  • HubSpot — contact form. Hosted in HubSpot’s Australian data centre. See §5 for the CLOUD Act caveat.
  • Hyvor Talk — post comments. Operated by Hyvor Ltd (UK) with infrastructure in Europe (Germany). Only loaded after you accept the cookie banner. Hyvor uses Akismet (Automattic, Inc., US) as a spam-detection sub-processor; see §5 for what is shared and how long it is retained.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date and version number at the top of this page reflect the most recent change. Material changes are recorded in the change log below.
