1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files stored in your browser by the websites you visit. They are used for things like remembering preferences, keeping you logged in, or analysing how a site is used.
2. Cookies on this site
This site sets no cookies when you simply browse and read. Cookies are only ever set if you take a specific action, as set out below.

We do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and there is no consent banner to dismiss — because nothing is set unless you act.
3. Comments and the discussion
Reader comments are powered by a third-party service, Hyvor Talk. The discussion loads with the article.
- Loading it contacts
talk.hyvor.com. As with any third-party request, that carries your IP address and the address of the page you are reading. - Cookies are only set once you act. Reading a discussion sets none. Signing in, or posting a comment, sets cookies that remember who you are.
Until 3 September 2026 the discussion waited behind a “load comments” button. We removed it: it meant most readers never saw that a conversation existed at all. If you would rather no third-party request were made, the browser controls below are the reliable way to achieve that.
You do not have to be identifiable to take part. You can comment under any name you choose, and an email address is optional — see the Privacy Policy.
4. Browser controls
You can control cookies through your browser’s settings. Doing so may affect how the comments section works.
5. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes are recorded below.
